The tradition of the conference Differential Geometry and its Applications goes back more than thirty years and it is linked to three leaders of the Czech Differential Geometry scene – Ivan Kolář, Oldřich Kowalski, and Demeter Krupka. The conferences take place regularly at one of the Czech universities every three years. The tenth conference in the series took place in Olomouc in 2007, preceded by Prague in 2004, Opava in 2001, Brno in 1998 and 1995, etc. In the first decade of the conferences, the idea to create a renowned international journal led by the main organizers was born under great influence of Simon Gindikin and Alexander Vinogradov. Originally, this was prepared as an endeavor of Masaryk University in cooperation with the American Mathematical Society. Finally the journal was launched in 1991 as one of the Elsevier journals and serves the community since than, see www.elsevier.com/locate/difgeo. The Editorial Board meetings always take place during the conferences.
